What Flipdrop stores on your device
- A random device identifier, generated on first launch — this is what your progress is tied to instead of an account
- The display name you choose
- Your equipped cosmetics (body, hat, dash trail)
- Your sound on/off preference
- Your whole progress: every run you complete, the points you have earned, and every cosmetic you have bought, in a database on the phone
None of this is derived from your phone, your hardware, or any advertising identifier. The device identifier is a random value the app makes up for itself.
What leaves your phone
Your progress does not. Runs, points, and cosmetics are written to that on-device database and stay there — we hold no copy, which is also why progress cannot follow you to a new phone.
Two things are sent to our analytics service at analytics.wecreate-services.com:
- Leaderboard entries. When a run scores above zero, the app posts that score, the display name you chose, and the cosmetics you had equipped, so the run can take its place on the global board.
- Anonymous gameplay events — that a run finished, or that a cosmetic was bought — together with basic device information: platform, OS version, device model, and app version. This tells us whether the difficulty curve is working and helps us catch crashes. It is used only internally and is never sold or shared.
Both carry a second random identifier, belonging to the analytics service and generated on the device. Like the first, it is not derived from your phone, your hardware, or any advertising ID — and the identifier the game uses for your progress is never sent anywhere.
Your display name is public
The name you pick is shown to other players. The global leaderboard lists top runs with their player's display name and character, on every player's screen. Please pick something you are happy for strangers to see — it does not have to be your real name, and we would rather it wasn't.
What we never collect
- No account, registration, sign-in, or password
- No email address, phone number, or contacts
- No precise location
- No photos, files, microphone, or camera — the app requests none of these permissions
- No sale or sharing of personal information
Advertising
Flipdrop shows a single banner ad served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google's ad SDK collects data directly from your device: your device's advertising ID, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and general device information. That collection goes to Google, not to us, and is governed by Google's privacy policy (see also how Google uses data from partner apps).
Ads may be personalized by Google based on the advertising ID. You can turn off ad personalization, or reset or delete your advertising ID, at any time in your device settings (Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads).
We do not send the ad system your display name, your scores, or your device identifier.
Children's privacy
Flipdrop is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because there are no accounts, the only thing a player can enter is a display name — and we ask that it not be a real name.
Data retention and deletion
Leaderboard entries are kept while the game is live so the board stays meaningful, and gameplay events for the same period. You can ask us to delete both at any time — see data deletion.
Uninstalling the app erases everything held on the phone: both identifiers, your display name and preferences, and all of your progress. That happens immediately and needs no request to us. It does not remove entries already posted to the leaderboard, and because the identifiers are gone, a fresh install starts over as a new player.
Changes to this policy
If a future version starts collecting something new, this page will be updated before that version ships.
